More steps are taken to simplify our waste process.

Week 19

This week we received the 2021–2022 Solid Waste & Recycling guide from Hennepin County. It was a comprehensive guide detailing what to know about the entire waste process.

From trash to recycling and compost, to details on which day is pick-up, what can and cannot be recycled, and other important notes. One standout however was an opportunity to reduce your trash cart size.

As part of your fees as a homeowner, trash cart size dictates a monthly fee. As it stands now, to have the standard size cart we pay $5/ month. But if we change to a smaller size, we can reduce our monthly cost to $2. With a savings of $36 annually, it seemed like a no-brainer. After all, we are barely filling our cart above 25% on any given week. Submitting this request was simple enough — email the department. I heard back within 24 hours that the change had been requested and it would be fulfilled the next time the department was making cart changes in our neighborhood.

Every little step to reduce our footprint!

Here are our totals for the week, rounded up to the nearest 25%.

Trash: 25%

Organics: 75%

Recycling 1: 100%

Recycling 2: 25%

Extra: None
